Imagine a world where affiliate marketing no longer existed!

How would you ‘monetize’ your blog then?

What if your blog only got a handful of visitors per month?

How could you extract maximum cash from a minimum of visitors?

One thing I’ve gotten pretty good at is buying and selling advertising
space online in various forms.

Fact is it’s very easy to sell…(almost too easy) because everyone is looking for
easy traffic without all the SEO drama.

What if you could set up a blog and sell ad space on it within a month?

There are a tons of niches that are overlooked because of the very low level of
traffic for most all of the keywords on that niche…

One man’s trash is another man’s GOLD!!!

Let’s take a look…

Here are a few keyword examples I found for a niche with BIG BUYING potential

“buy boat in Florida” search results = 7

“buy ski boat in Florida” no matches found

And the list goes on…you can mix up different kinds of boats with different states
like “buy sail boat in Maine”

And it doesn’t just have to be boats…”buy a Learjet” or “buy a hang glider” = 181 results…

In these situations you’re not going to need a lot of traffic to sell ad space…

Imagine, EVEN IF you only had 10 visitors a month on a site that was ranked for “buy a LearJet”…how hard do you think it would be to sell ad space to a broker?

It’s NOT uncommon for them to pay hundreds of dollars for ads, banners and even more for leads!

Better yet you could build a list of folks interested in purchasing a 7 figure jet (or other big ticket purchases) and then contact the companies selling the big ticket items and have them pay you to send out a solo ad to your list of deep pocket jet setters.

See how easy it could be to start earning big money from your low traffic blog?(Even if you never made one affiliate sale.)

By the way…

Not only are these ‘low traffic’ blogs easier to get ranked for because
nobody sees the potential (now you do), but if you monetize with ADVERTISING
you can sell your blog fast and for another big payday BECAUSE these types
of blogs require very little upkeep to stay put in the rankings and there’s
no product to deliver.

I think there’s a lot more opportunity on the internet than most people even realize. You always hear people say things like:

    “There’s too much competition.”
    “The internet is getting saturated.”
“There aren’t any products to promote cause everyone is already promoting the good stuff.”

I say, “Hogwash!” You just need to use your brain a little and think for yourself rather than always following the herd and doing exactly what every other internet marketing guru is doing. That’s how you find these little goldmines.

Keep digging. Don’t give up. You’ll find the gold.

Great post Ben, Travis, and the “Ickies!” :)

I’d love more info on the method you discussed as per your “P.S.”

I’m definitely seeing some light bulbs here. And I’m thinking about the people who keep saying look for low competition and high searches and how they’re missing out on all these low comp, low search opportunities that CAN be profitable in some way or the other.

This has been the only way I’ve been able to finally start making good money online. (Not necessarily the sell ad space ideas… but targetting the low search / low comp buyers). One of my better earning sites consistently does $1800-2000/month with just anywhere from 5-25 visitors a day. The internet opens up WIDE when you see how powerful this can be. :)

This is exactly the reason I opted in for your trial period in the first place. Loved the fishing comparison. I have a comparison I will share with you now…remember Tiny Tim and his song “Tip Toe Thru The Tulips” well all the other marketers are Tulips while you guys are Tip Toeing on thru the Tulips picking up those profitable niches that the Tulips failed to recognize. I admit that I didn’t much care for that song but I admire you guys for having such great insight. Totally Awesome and wanting more.

  16. Derek November 2, 2011 at 3:29 am #

Thanks for the quality tip and insight Ben and Travis. It’s clear that there are many ways to capitalize on the billions of folks online today. The internet marketing pie is surely big enough for each of us to get a slice. It’s just a matter of figuring out where to slice and how a big a piece to go after.

InstaCashkeywords.com can definitely help folks figure things out. Your training is very much appreciated!

  17. Business Australia November 2, 2011 at 5:16 am #

Your examples are a bit misleading.

Of course searching for “buy ski boat in Florida” gives no matches.

No decent website would have that grammatically incorrect phrase in its text.

Searching for “buy ski boat in Florida” without the quotes gives a completely different (and more competitive) picture.

  18. Tony B November 2, 2011 at 11:13 am #

Business Australia (B.A), pint taken there, but you do have to stretch the mind a bit at times, The words can still flow within a sentence and do the SEO job:

“We were told it was the best place to buy ski boat, in Florida they had a good reputation. So I went and ….

You get the picture. Anyway It’s a great article that provokes thinking It’s not the “exact words that we should be looking at B.A but what it means in our niches maybe!

  19. BenC November 2, 2011 at 2:15 pm #

    I apologize, Biz Aussie…

But Tony pretty much wrapped it up there…one misleading example in a post was far from the message we were trying to get out.

You could try “buy a ski boat in Florida”…and see there is still very little competition.

I would also stick with the quotes when it comes to looking at competition…but this is just what has worked for Travis and I (and a lot of our affiliates)
but if searching without quotes has worked well for you and has helped you make money online then I say keep up the good work!

  25. Jean November 2, 2011 at 4:44 pm #

    Hey Folks,

Great post – love the way you think! No buy this expensive product & look at tons of long videos, then try and implement stuff that doesn’t seem to work. You cut to the chase & find things that the average “joe” (or in my case, average Jean) can actually do with limited funds & limited time.

Thanks. Would love more details on how to monetize my blogs with this method.

  27. Michael November 2, 2011 at 5:17 pm #

Great Post! I also agree with Derek about the nearly unlimited ways to make money online. It’s just that we have trained ourselves to only approach it with narrow thinking because that is what we have been taught to do.

Just 2 days ago, I was wanting to know more about selling ad space.

So, Yes! please send me the information about it.

  28. How to lighten skin naturally November 2, 2011 at 6:05 pm #

Targeting low comp low search kw’s is a great idea for those just starting out. I feel the first goal of a new marketer should be to reach the first page of google, forget about the money until then. If some comes in then that’s a bonus.

  30. Rick November 2, 2011 at 7:59 pm #

Have you actually sold advertising for hundreds of dollars/mo. on sites that got as few as 10 visitors? Do people usually ask for traffic stats before buying the ad space?

  31. Trevor November 2, 2011 at 8:43 pm #

Yeah well, if you’re going to get serious about making
money online, you might as well promote or sell big -

    products.

Thanks for the excellent information guys! There are so many potentially profitable untapped niches that I do not understand why people waste their time promoting junk. Just a little creativity and ingenuity and anyone can be earning a solid living online as long as they are willing to put in the work and effort.

  37. Brain Game November 4, 2011 at 5:05 am #

Thank you guys for the great information!
This is exactly what my research is showing on my website traffic stats. I use Statcounter for some of my sites and they have a cool feature that shows where you rank on the “G” search engine. Nice!
Keep up the good work. I always look forward to you emails and posts.
    Kim

  38. Danielle November 4, 2011 at 8:03 am #

Travis & Ben, you guys always amaze me.
I notice people are getting hung-up on the wording. My suggestion – Don’t do it! Buy ski boat Maine? Dig around a bit and you’ll find that someone is using that entire phrase, grammatically incorrect as all get out, and making a nice little chunk of change with it.

Stop over thinking this. The person using that phrase is using old school direct response copy. When you are paying $1 or more per word, you limit the number of words you use to get the point across.

Thanks guys, that Learjet gave me an idea and the post inspired me to try it out.

  42. Christmas Gift Suggestions 2011 November 4, 2011 at 1:33 pm #

Nice idea. I may just try the trial if it expired in 7 days and not keep charging me…that’s sneaky marketing in my opinion. I would rather try it for 7 days and then get a reminder if I wanted to continue..not get automatically charged. Also, if these KWs are going out to tons of people, a lot of competition will be created (yes, you can assume that very few will take action, but still).

  43. Jim November 4, 2011 at 3:48 pm #

This is amazing, not everyone will like to model their internet business his way because of the little competiton but they don’t know that they are leaving the GOLD for the smart IMers thanks for the post.

  46. David November 4, 2011 at 5:34 pm #

    Hey, Travis,

I’d like to know more about this and hope that its not another one of those endeavors that is easy to do…once you know how…kinda like brain surgery.

Too often its not what is said that matters but what is not said.

Create a Lear jet blog with some niche keywords and sell ads…sounds easy enough…but…

  47. David November 4, 2011 at 5:46 pm #

    Hey, Travis,

Got an addition to my post…pretty interesting.

I just went to Google and searched “buy a learjet”

    I got 11,000 + indexed pages.

Here’s what is interesting. Your blog pitch is on the first page of Google!

Why?…because in your site description you have the words “buy a learjet”

What confounds me is why you are on the first page when your blog has absolutely nothing to do with buying an airplane…it simply contains the right keywords.

So, that makes me wonder big time about Google’s requirement that your site be “relevant” and have meaningful “content”

I’d appreciate any feedback from you or any of your posters.

  48. Honest Jay November 4, 2011 at 7:48 pm #

@David See that just shows you. If this blog is on first page because it has the keywords somewhere on a page for an irrelevant term, what would happen if you actually did a blog with that term as the domain name and as the main keywords.

Pretty sure it would be #1 and it pretty much validates this post.

  49. Honest Jay November 4, 2011 at 7:53 pm #

I just realized that you searched in quotes though. However, it just means that most of the other sites aren’t optimized for that exact keyword and you could still most likely get a top position if you targeted that keyword.

  50. Rida November 4, 2011 at 11:26 pm #

    Thanks for great post…
It keeps me motivated to continue dealing with this online marketing using blog. My blog has very low traffic and sometimes I want to give up and throw it away. Been on and off without hope. Reading your post, I start to believe that even an average blog still has chance to generate some pennies.

  51. JD November 5, 2011 at 1:46 am #

Hi Travis, you’re one of the few “gurus” I pay any attention to anymore. Good info here. I, too, would like to have more info about selling the ad space.

  52. tina November 5, 2011 at 3:56 am #

This is a really interesting way to approach these lower competition keywords. Definitely see the potential based on what you wrote. More info would be great.

  53. Wesley November 5, 2011 at 10:23 am #

Great idea, however you have to do work upfront (domain, blog = all money) and there is no guarantee someone will be interested in this low-traffic blog.

  54. Peter November 5, 2011 at 1:42 pm #

This is a great idea and one that I have been considering for quite awhile will give it some more thought. keep up the great work

  55. WhoWantsCoach November 6, 2011 at 4:12 am #

That is right on the money Travis, and not only that but you could also become a broker for these high ticket items merely matching the seller to the buyer sometimes as easy as searching thru Craigslist and eBay and making a nice commission in the process.

  56. Julie November 6, 2011 at 4:57 am #

    Travis … and crew,

I have been religiously following you since the first mention of bum marketing. This is a wonderful example of Thinking Outside of the Box. As a former teacher, I used to cringe when I found grammatical errors in publications for the world to read. Not anymore. People really do type search keywords and phrases using various and sundry errors … on purpose.

It would be helpful to read a report similar to your Bum Marketing explanation. Some of us need some step-by-step hand-holding to learn a technique, especially when salesmanship isn’t your first – or native – language.

Your casual style of presenting valuable information is refreshingly helpful. It does let us know that it is possible to write in plain, understandable English. For that, I thank you. Please expand on the information presented here. It would be so helpful.

You make some good points here. Years ago I listened to an audio interview about long tail keyword phrases with low competition. I’m going to do a little keyword research right now to see what I can find. There are a lot of things I could do with this concept.

  66. Bill November 13, 2011 at 4:51 pm #

    Yes, definitely more info, please!

  67. chrisfarrell review November 13, 2011 at 10:01 pm #

HI … I just bought the ICKY trial and I was surprised by the wealth of info it contains.

    But …

On the keywords PDF list, it leaves out a very important element —> the PPC value.

Without this, the marketer has to do extra steps to look for the PPC values, then incorporate them in the PDF initial list (export list to spreadsheet, export PPC to spreadsheet, combine them etc).

Can you not incorporate the PPC outright in the ICKY kw list? I understand that you use MNF … the PPC values in MNF are just beside the KW-Searches-SOC …

This will really simplify things for your ICKY subscribers .
    Thank you

Thanks for the cool tips in this article. I’ve been building sites which focus on long tail keywords for a while now.

I’d rather rank easily for 100 keywords which get 100 visitors a month than work hard trying to rank for one keyword which gets 10000 visitors a month.

At least for now that is. I’ll change my strategy once I start earning more cashola.

There are certainly a lot of details like that to take into consideration. That is a great point to bring up. I offer the thoughts above as general inspiration but clearly there are questions like http://www.uyxiu.com the one you bring up where the most important thing will be working in honest good faith. I don?t know if best practices have emerged around things like that, but I am sure that your job is clearly identified as a fair game. Both boys and girls feel the impact of just a moment’s pleasure, for the rest of their lives.

  75. eric January 10, 2012 at 5:15 pm #

This is a great idea and I have actually thought about this before I set up my last idea. I saw someone who is coming out with a book and was going to ask them if they wanted to advertise on my site. What do I say to this person though? How do I ask him to pay me? Up front for a year or monthly? By what method would he use to pay me? I GUESS THIS BLOG RAISES A LOT OF MORE QUESTIONS I HAVE ABOUT DOING THIS.

  76. Suzanne February 21, 2012 at 8:17 pm #

You always over deliver Travis. Good show. I’ll be looking for that information as you promised. Thanks for thinking of us with all this cool stuff.
